Canesnap

Australia is one of the world's largest producers of sugar cane, yet the visual language surrounding dark cane spirits continues to be dominated by Caribbean heritage, colonial iconography and centuries-old rum traditions. For the launch of Canesnap, the newest addition to Dark Spirits Enterprise's Everstill Spirits portfolio, Grid City set out to create a brand that celebrated something much closer to home.

Rather than borrowing from overseas cues, the agency looked to Far North Queensland- Australia's tropical sugar cane heartland, to build a brand with an unmistakably Australian point of view. Endless cane fields, lush rainforest, crocodile-inhabited waterways, humid evenings and the relaxed drinking culture of Queensland's tropical north became the inspiration for a contemporary brand world that feels authentic, vibrant and deeply connected to place.

The opportunity wasn't simply to design another bottle. It was to create a distinctive Australian dark cane spirit brand that could establish its own visual language while celebrating the landscape, culture and lifestyle from which it was born.

At the centre of the project is the brand's name.

Canesnap is inspired by the unmistakable sound of freshly harvested sugar cane- the sharp crack, or "snap", that signals the beginning of the harvest. But the idea extends far beyond agriculture… In Far North Queensland, another kind of snap is never far away. The region is synonymous with crocodiles, whose powerful jaws have become one of Australia's most recognisable symbols of the tropics. This unexpected connection gave Grid City a powerful creative platform that linked the product's origins, the local environment and the consumer experience into a single, memorable brand idea.

It all starts with a Snap!
